Event Details

The GIST Magazine is a gathering of folks involved or interested in all forms of creative, digital and geek culture.

In November we're back at the GIST Lab. This month includes:

  • Collaborative Innovation: Open Data
Saul Cozens tells us about Sheffield City Council's first steps towards open data and the role the geek community has to play in it.
  • Hardwired: Sweets For Tweets.
A demo and progress update of the epic Shacknet project with David Emmett.
  • Software Craftsmanship: From the Retreat
Newcomer to Ruby Richard King reviews his experiences from October's Code Retreat
  • Hard Craft: Blinking Marvellous
The Geek Girls have just had an LED Hullapalooza. Erica Packington spills the glow-in-the-dark beans.
  • Usergroup News: Announcing two new groups for Open Data and Systems Thinking
  • Creative Bytes: Acid Sketching
A jawdropping demo from Alex McLean on something that is frankly bordering on magic

Plus announcements about forthcoming GIST events around open data, mobile platforms, GIST Write! and other grassroots innovation and technology projects. And maybe even the seasonal social.

Also: It's National Stress Awareness Day on Wednesday, so if you can, do join us for the GIST Stressed Community Chillax Day from 2pm.

Do any of these ring true for you?

  • Passionate about technology or what it can do for us?
  • Design it, make it, build it, share it?
  • Invent, innovate or create social change with it?
  • Play with it, have fun with it, or simply consume it?

Join us for an informal and infectious mix of grassroots innovation, social action and technology.  Get The GIST on the first Wednesday of every month from 7pm.

The GIST Magazine incorporates GeekUp Sheffield and features a range of content drawn from the projects, groups and activities of the GIST Community and the wider grassroots technology scene. If you'd like to share something at the Magazine, pick up a Contributor ticket or get in touch.
